BRONX EARLY LEARNING CENTER

I was honored to be the project architect for Volunteers of Americas Bronx Early Learning Center. This project stands as a testament to transformative design, consolidating two existing preschools into a state-of-the-art facility. The 22-classroom center, catering to both typically developing and delayed children, was achieved by restoring the building's exterior to its original glory and completely reimagining the interior. A 3 story feature wall with open staircase is the focal point of the school providing visual continuity between all three floors. Key structural elements included a new steel mezzanine and rooftop playground supports. This innovative and environmentally sensitive space quickly became the largest special-needs preschool in New York State. It received the 2008 Crow Island School Citation from American School & University magazine recognizing the project as the top Pre-K through 12 educational facility in the country.
